Qualifications: UN Peace-Keeping Forces were given THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE 1988 for all peace- keeping duties up to december 1988. It is possible to receive - The Interna- tional Peace Prize Medals 1988 - if you as a military personnel or civillian - have taken part in UN-service before the Nobel Peace Prize Award on the 10 December 1988. It is also possible for NEXT-OF-KIN to receive this highly regarded award, as a special memory for one of their relatives who has taken part in a UN mission. The following UN missions are included:
The history behind The International Peace Prize Medal 1988 Among the 97 candidates to the Nobel Peace Prize 1988 many persons were much known through the press and media. The United Nations Peace Keeping Forces were among others in competition with Mikhail Gorbatsjov and Ronald Reagan, Gro Harlem Brundtland, Nelson Mandela, Carazon Aquine, Pope Johannes Paul II, The World Helthorganisation and the International football association FIFA. In connection with the giving of The Nobel Peace Prize Medal 1988, the hopes of the involved - civilian and military personnel, spread over the action of the world were raised. Hopes of a recognized symbol - medal or certificate - for the duties carried out. However nothing was processed at first. It was only when a veteran association in Norway took the matter into their own hands, did the necessary drawings and samples of medal - and got the medal produced. The Medal Committee of the Norwegian Ministry of Defence together with The Norwegian Nobel Institute examined the medal, and in 1995 a finished set of medals were completed for approval. Permission was given by the Norwegian Nobel Institute to produce a print of the original NOBEL DIPLOMA - which is enclosed the medal. The original can be found in the UN building in New York. The UN veteran association - Bergen and Hordaland UN-Veteran Association, Norway together with The Norwegian Association of UN Veterans - succeeded in getting approval from the Norwegian Ministry of Defence to produce a special personal Certificate to be given with the medal. The Norwegian Ministry of Defence - Jørgen Kosmo signed the certificate. In November 1996, the above medal committee approved the medal as an official Norwegian/International medal with permission to be worn on uniform in Norway, and is one of the highest placed UN medals in Norway. An extremely highly regarded and honored possession for the many UN veterans, men and woman, who until 10. December 1988, have taken part in UN duties throughout the world. The Internal approval now means that other UN veterans in the world now can receive - THE INTERNATIONAL PEACE PRIZE MEDAL 1988 - a unique proof that one has received the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE 1988. Foreign UN personnel: In 2007 The Norwegian Nobel Institute, represented by Director General Geir Lundestad and The Royal Norwegian Ministry of Defence represented by Deputy Director Even Enge has stated following rules for delivery of THE INTERNATIONAL PEACE PRIZE MEDAL 1988 to entitled foreign UN personnel: For individual foreighn UN personel - THE INTERNATIONAL PEACE PRIZE MEDAL 1988 will be delivered with a light blue ribbon, and the personal Certificate will be signed by the National President of the Norwegian UN Veterans. With official purchase of a largen number of THE INTERNATIONAL PEACE PRIZE MEDAL 1988 to UN peacekeepers in a country - the medal can be delivered with a special designed ribbon with the individual countries national colors on UN light blue background. The personal Certificate will be signed by the National President of the Norwegian UN Veterans together with a military/political person in the actual country - which gives the medal a high national and international value. All medals will be delivered with a print of the original NOBEL DIPLOMA from 1988. The above accept of - THE INTERNATIONAL PEACE PRIZE MEDAL 1988 - is a good example that results can be made by veterans with true feelings, when they take the initiative.
Statutes for The International Peace Prize Medal 1988 Based on decision by The Royal Norwegian Ministry of Defence, September 2006. Paragraph 1 The Peace Prize Medal 1988 was approved by the Norwegian Ministry of Defence in 1995. The International Peace Prize Medal is approved for sale to relevant personnel/countries. The sale is administrated by The Norwegian Association of UN Veterans. Paragraph 2 Design: The medal is made in gilded metal with enamel in light blue and white. It has a diameter of 35 mm / 20 mm for the mini medal. Obverse:
UN´s globe symbol is white enamel with oak leaf wreath also in white enamel,
on light blue enamel base. Reverse:
UN in white enamel on light blue enamel base. Surrounded by text in gilded
medal relief on gilded background. The Medal is attached to a light blue ribbon with a vertical column in the relevant country´s national/military colours in the middle. (For sale to qualified individuals from countries who do not have a national ribbon, the Medal may be attached to a light blue ribbon). Paragraph 3 The medal is awarded to non-Norwegian civilian or military personnel having served in a UN peacekeeping mission during the period between the first resolution of peacekeeping service in 1956, (United Nations Emergency Forces - UNEF), and the awarding of The Nobel Peace Prize 1988 to UN peacekeeping forces in 10. December 1988. Non-Norwegians having served with a Norwegian unit in UN peacekeeping duty, may be awarded the Medal with Norwegian flag-colours on the light blue ribbon. Paragraph 4 The Medal is accompanied by a print/copy of the original Nobel Peace Prize Diploma, signed by The Norwegian Nobel Committee, and a diploma signed by the President of The Borwegian Association og UN Veterans, and a senior representive og the relevant country. Paragraph 5 The Medal is awarded/sold once to each individual, and is the individual's personal property. Paragraph 6 The Medal may be worn on military uniform based on each country's national regulations.
